CNN accuses Trump of ‘encouraging violence against reporters’

US president Donald Trump has tweeted a mock video of himself body-slamming a man with the CNN logo covering his face.

CNN has accused Donald Trump of “encouraging violence against reporters”, after the President tweeted a video of him wrestling a man with the TV network’s logo over his face.

On Sunday, the US President shared edited footage of him slamming WWE owner Vince McMahon to the ground and striking his head, with the CNN logo covering the man’s face.

The short video has the words “Fraud News Network”, in what appears to be an adulteration of the network’s logo.

In response, CNN issued a statement accusing the President of “juvenile behaviour” and “encouraging violence”.

“It is a sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters,” the network said.

“Clearly, Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied when she said the President had never done so,” it added, referencing the White House deputy press secretary’s assurance last June that “the president is not a liar”.

The statement also criticises Mr Trump for failing to “prepare for his overseas trip, his first meeting with Vladimir Putin, dealing with North Korea and working on his health care bill”.

“He is instead involved in juvenile behaviour far below the dignity of his office,” it added.

“We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his.”

The original footage dates back from 2007, but it was unclear who added the CNN logo.

A version of the video appeared on the website Reddit several days ago.

The US President has been stepping up verbal attacks on the media and CNN in particular, accusing them of releasing what he calls “fake news”.

White House homeland security adviser Tom Bossert also told ABC news that he thinks Mr Trump is “beaten up in a way on cable platforms that he has a right to respond to”, and “no one would perceive that as a threat”.

The President has recently defended his use of social media, which he says “is modern day Presidential”.

“The FAKE & FRAUDULENT NEWS MEDIA is working hard to convince Republicans and others I should not use social media,” he tweeted.

“But remember I won the 2016 election with interviews, speeches and social media.”

Madonna announces opening date for Mercy James centre

Madonna announces opening date for Mercy James centre

American pop star Madonna has announced opening date for the state of the art children’s hospital. Mercy James centre will be for pediatric surgery and intensive care.

The singer who is a foster mother to four Malawian children made the revelation on Friday. She said the facility will open its doors on 11th July, 2017.

Success of the project is owed to the star’s effort through an initiative called Raising Malawi. Madonna managed to convince others to contribute towards the project as she organised entertainment events in her native country. The proceeds went to the project.

She dedicates it to the children of Malawi, her adopted daughter Mercy James in particular, hence naming it after her. Madonna adopted Mercy in 2009.

The facility is the first and the only one of its kind in Malawi. As such it is expected to benefit Malawian children which will in turn improve their health, considering that critical surgeries will be conducted at the centre.

As a token of appreciation, the American artist recognises every hand that played a part in making the project a success.

“Thanks to everyone, doctor, company, construction foreman (the list goes on) who have dedicated time, energy and effort to making this project a success.”

Apart from adopting Malawian children, the artist’s helping hand keeps extending to other children in the country.

Rooney is currently on holiday in Ibiza but has been linked with an Everton return. It is as well as a possible that he will switch to Stoke, West Ham or the Chinese Super League.

But England’s 53-goal record scorer is not   agitating for a move and it is understood he and his advisors intend to stand firm.

Gary Neville has urged Rooney and United to sort it out, saying: “I’m surprised it has not been dealt with. You don’t want that hanging over a pre-season.”

Rooney and his team-mates return to training on  Saturday before flying out to  Los Angeles for a week-long camp before  their US tour kicks off.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent United fans a farewell message after his Old Trafford exit was confirmed.
